FISHBONE TO ANALYZE THE ISSUES AND POSSIBLE CAUSES
4 M's, S's and P's Theory...
Fishbone is one of the mostly used tool to analyze the problem in one big picture. Once the cause has been identified then it could be taken into detailed studies for further analysis.
Fishbone is a structure just looks like a skeleton of a fish.
Steps to prepare:
- Draw a Straight line with head and tail of a fishbone
- Draw diagonal lines on both sides, depending on the heads need to be presented
- Mention the issue on the head side of the diagram
- Choose the headings for diagonal lines from your own or from brainstorming
- For the Main headings the combination could also be used as per the desire from the list mentioned above
- Add Sub-headings to the main headings in the spaces on diagonal lines
Once the diagram has been set up, now the discussion and brainstorming can take place to figure out the issues and challenges.
Usually, it is a good idea to have all heads or supervisors from the related departments to listen to their point of view on the topics discussed in the meeting.
Fishbone provides the one big picture to understand and analyze. You could add more headings and subheadings as much as you need to identify the issue in effective manner.
The next step is to note down all the conclusions and findings from the event and research them through the data base's, charts and graphs. There could be big or small size causes, both easy or hard to fix. still now you have a path to go, thanks.
